The Warren County Historical Society announces its official opening as a museum with a new display, “Warren County 360:  Celebrating Place and People,” at its headquarters, 50 Gurney Lane, Queensbury.  The exhibit, a product of two years of research and design, depicts the evolution of Warren County through the lens of cultural geography, showing how the natural resources of the region led to the development of its economy and society.

A ribbon-cutting hosted by the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce and debut reception will be held on Thursday, September 12 from 5 to 8pm.

The display was made possible through the generous financial support of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, the Town of Queensbury, the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership, the Touba Family Foundation, NBT Bank, Hank’s Quality Flooring, Steve Bascom of Edward Jones, and several members of the Society’s Board of Trustees.

An exhibit of Warren County postal history from 1813 to 1920, curated by Trustee Stephen Matte of Queensbury, will be on display in an adjoining gallery.

The Warren County Historical Society was chartered by in 1997 by the New York State Education Department for the collection, preservation, and promotion of the heritage of Warren County. The Society has a vast collection of artifacts, photographs, maps, and other historical materials pertaining to the region. Exhibits are offered, and a historical journal, Pasttimes, is published quarterly. The WCHS is a non-profit membership organization funded through dues, donations, gifts, and grants.  Governed by a 20-member Board of Trustees, its activities are carried out by an Executive Director and a staff of volunteers. The Society has 501 (c)3 tax exempt status and NYS sales tax exemption.

For further information, please call 518 – 743 – 0734 or email at execdir@wcnyhs.org.  Follow the Society on Facebook and Twitter, and visit the website at www.wcnyhs.org.  The WCHS is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 4pm, and Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.

One of the biggest roadblocks to cancer treatment is transportation.

That’s why the American Cancer Society Road To Recovery program provides patients in need with free rides to treatment. And we  need your help.

Volunteers have provided hundreds of thousands of rides for patients, but the need for drivers continues to accelerate.

Please consider becoming a volunteer driver. Volunteers donate their time and can provide as many rides as they want.

                All drivers must have:

  • A current, valid driver’s license
  • A good driving record
  • Access to a safe and reliable vehicle
  • Regular desktop, laptop, or tablet computer access
  • Proof of car insurance
