The World Cinema Series continues at The Strand Theatre in Hudson Falls!
Thursday October 10th at 7pm, I'll be hosting a FREE screening of Danish filmmaker's Carl Theodor Dreyer gothic horror 1932 classic, "Vampyr"! Perfect time as we enter the spooky Halloween season. This was the second Dreyer film I saw and first discovered this masterpiece (like most of these) by accident. It was almost two decades ago as I was consuming cinema off of Turner Classic Movies. I put it on the DVR and was amazed at I what I saw and was even more amazed that this was the same guy who directed "The Passion Of Joan Of Arc" four years prior!
This film was based upon a collection of ghost stories called, "In A Glass Darkly" by J. Sheridan Le Fanu. The film was funded by future "Vogue" & "Harper's Bazaar" editor, Nicolas de Gunzberg who also stars in the film as a student of the occult who enters a small village under the power & curse of a vampire. That's the plot! Very simple, but so effective and such incredible & unforgettable visuals in it's extremely tight 73 minute running time! The film opened to mixed reviews but has become considered and revered as one of the greatest films of all time!
