"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" review

I'm a huge Godzilla fan! I have over 30 films in my collection and I'm a huge fan of the original Kong film from the 30's! I will watch anything Godzilla related, without question.

I didn't LOVE "Godzilla vs. Kong", but I did find it entertaining (even if it was way too long and over the top). While this film has some entertaining spots but it has way too many (and forced) plots, drags in places and an underwhelming climax. The story literally picks up three years after the events in "Godzilla vs. Kong" and has some of the main characters returning as well. The story mainly focuses on Kong this time and how he discovers an uncharted land after a sinkhole mysteriously opens! From there Kong discovers a tribe of his own species which run by a tyrannical dictator. Godzilla is kind of wasted here as he's sensing some sort of danger and spends a good chunk of the film storing nuclear energy for the big monster battle at the end! Mothra returns briefly for a couple of scenes!

This should've been split into a couple of different films. Godzilla and Kong both have interesting separate story arcs and to have both of them squeezed here together is too much and it shows. To have it build up to such an underwhelming finale is a disappointment for many fans. Yes, the film has its moments for sure and it's a monster movie so we can't expect too much in the story department, but after the amazing and powerful "Godzilla Minus One" last year, perhaps us Godzilla (and monster fans) have been spoiled.
