The town of Granville, NY is known as the "Colored slate capital of the world". As a matter of fact, there are multiple signs as you come into different parts of the town. But did you know the town was named after Lord John Carteret, the 2nd earl of Granville. He was a British statesman who worked closely with the US prime minister in the mid 18th century. He worked to heal certain factions of the Government at the time. He was born in 1690 and passed away in 1763 in London, England.
