Charley Pride was lucky to live out two dreams in life! First, the Mississippi native had is eyes on a baseball career.  As a teenager, he was playing with the Negro League's Memphis Red Sox and the New York Yankee's farm team before an injury led him to pursue music full time. In 1966, with the help of producer Chet Atkins, RCA records signed him to a record deal. Overcoming racial politics in Country Music, by delivering outstanding music and performances, he eventually became RCA's biggest selling artist since Elvis Presley.  Pride would go on to have a 50 plus year in Country Music, prior to his passing in 2020.  Later in life, we would also become a big fan and part-owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team (2010).

Charley Pride Facts from PBS' 'Country Music' Series: Charley Pride was the first black member of the Grand Ole Opry since DeFord Bailey decades earlier; the first black artist to have a number one country record; and the first artist of any race to win the Country Music Association’s male vocalist award two years in a row. One of the most successful country singers ever, he would go on to have 29 No. 1 country hits, 52 Top 10s, and twelve gold albums. He has parlayed his entertainment successes into an equally successful business career, making his mark in Texas real estate and banking in the North Dallas community where he and wife Rozene make their home. In 2000, Charley Pride was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Watch the Charley Pride : 'I'm Just Me' documentary here.
