Robert Redford's Country Friends

As the world honors the work of Robert Redford, we take a moment to point out a few Country Music connections.

  • Robert Redford was the star of the movie 'The Electric Horseman'.  The 1979 film was also the major motion picture acting debut for Willie Nelson, and included his songs 'My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys' 'Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys' and 'Midnight Rider'.
  • Robert Redford's film 'Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid' featured the blockbuster hit 'Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head'.  The song was recorded by B.J. Thomas, who would transition to Country Music from a successful rock and pop career with songs like 'Whatever Happened To Old Fashioned Love' 'Two Car Garage' and 'Hey Won't You Play Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song'.
  • Country Legend Mel Tillis name checked Robert Redford in his Number One Country Classic from 1979 titled 'Coca-Cola Cowboy'-- "You got a Eastwood smile and Robert Redford Hair."
