The Dawson's Creek star was 48
Very sad news Wednesday, the family of actor James Van Der Beek confirmed on Instagram that the star has passed away.
Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
Van Der Beek was 48 and known for his role as the star of the late 90's early 2000's TV drama Dawson's Creek. He also stared in numerous films including The Rules of Attraction and Varsity Blues.
James had been battling stage 3 colorectal cancer since 2023, according to the New York Post. He is survived by his wife Kimberly and their six children.
