The fee will begin next month
Starting next month, travelers who want to board a domestic flight without a Real ID will have to pay $45 to have their identity verified through the Transportation Security Administration’s new security screening program. The alternative-verification program, TSA Confirm.ID, allows travelers without Real ID to verify their identity for a fee. TSA announced the new program in December, emphasizing the importance of traveler safety. The majority of passengers already use Real ID or other acceptable forms of identification, but those without can opt for Confirm.ID at a TSA checkpoint. The program requires travelers to submit a form and payment online, with biometric kiosks potentially being used for identity verification.
