The commitment to their community earns Queensbury/Lake George state accolades.
The Queensbury/Lake George Spartans were winners on the ice throughout the Winter season, but they also won off the ice.
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association announced on Monday the Spartans as the recipients of the 2026 Winter NYSPHSAA Community Service Challenge award, thanks in part to the dedication the Boys Ice Hockey program has demonstrated for over 10 years to giving back to the community they play for.
"This recognition means a great deal to our program because it reflects what we value beyond the game," is what Head Coach Dean Williams told the NYSPHSAA. Dr. Robert Zayas says "their dedication exemplifies the mission of the Community Service Challenge."
The challenge saw schools across New York State complete 246 community service projects, with over 10,000 athletes involving themselves to volunteer over 50,000 hours of their time and raise over $139,000 for charitable causes. The challenge includes use of the Team Up for Community platform, pushing schools and athletes to participate in community service throughout the year.
